Target Audience

Meet Eliza Williams, a model example to represent our target audience
We have created a range of social media profiles to present our findings about our target audience, their hobbies and interests, likes and dislikes and general information. We have also thought carefully about the ways in which our target audience interact on different media platforms and with media products and have tried to recreate this on these profiles.

Character Analysis

Male Lead

Our male lead is the typical bad boy type that the female encounters in the indie genre. He is attractive, tall, and always seen wearing dark (mostly black) clothing, which is significant as the colour black connotes power, authority and fear. This links to the character’s personality - he is controlling, abusive and in the eyes of the female his temporary kindness overrules the darkness that resides within him.

He is also often seen drinking until he has reached a point where he doesn’t know what he’s doing and appears powerless, but still managing to play his cards well through emotionally blackmailing the female into forgiving him with his seemingly-innocent state. Alcohol is often associated with addiction and, in extreme cases, any kind of abuse.

Despite all of this he appears to be a good, loyal friend, although he has trouble managing his time equally between his love life and his social life, and clearly does not like to mix the two as he is often seen either picking one or the other, not caring who might get hurt in the process. This is also seen briefly where he refuses to dance with the supporting female, but later complies, which suggests that he had no intention of taking the relationship between them any further and merely saw her as a friend; this further emphasises the fact that he does not mix his love life with his social life.

Female Lead

The female lead is often seen smiling, already showing her to be a happy-go-lucky individual, however despite this she is often seen sitting or standing by herself or at a slight distance from the other characters in the video. This shows that she is introverted and while she likes making friends, she would rather spend time with the male lead, causing some turbulence between them as they share completely opposite views on this specific topic.

Due to her colourful clothing, it is understood that she is a light person on the inside as opposed to her significant other, who is dark. A colour she wears a lot in the video is red, which connotes desire, passion and love, showing her devotion to him while other colours such as blue suggest that she is loyal, soft and understanding, which we also see in the video when she does not confront him about the fact that he is refusing to spend any time with her.

At the party where she is seen to wear a black and white dress, the connotations are very different to the black that the male lead wears, suggesting that she is elegant, while the white shows her to be pure and innocent; her personality contrasts very well with that of the male lead, as they are polar opposites. The way that she suddenly engages in conversation with the supporting male shows her loneliness and sadness at having nobody to interact with.

Supporting Male

From what is seen of the male and the way that he looks at the female lead it is clear that he feels some sort of attraction towards her, further emphasised by him pursuing her when he notices that the male lead has abandoned her. While his intentions appear to be good, there is an underlying slyness to the whole situation and his approach to comforting her when she is upset.

He is the typical hero of the story, jumping to her rescue to show that he is the “good guy” who wants her to be happy and will protect her, however that backfires when the male lead strikes him. As a result of this, he is revealed to be a weak and fearful character compared to the other characters.

Supporting Female

The supporting female is seen as an independent woman who knows what she wants, shown where she is revealed to be the sole host of the party, and also highlighted when she approaches the male lead without any encouraging. Making the first move is typically considered a “man’s job”, which makes her seem strong, powerful and in control of herself, unlike the female lead. Her clothing, which is (sensibly) tight and partly revealing shows that she is confident in herself and her body.

However, aside from the positive aspects of her personality, she also seems to be a bad friend due to the fact that as soon as the female lead rejects her, she slides over to the male lead and attempts to flirt and dance with him, knowing that his girlfriend can see it happening.
